We decided to create a book titled ALTERED! Art Projects that would attract all types of artists, from scrapbookers to those who do mixed media and assemblage artwork. Impossible you say? If we simply look at “altered” as something that has changed from the original concept, each project on every page falls under that category. A simple canvas or a photo undergoes a complete metamorphosis, just like a caterpillar turning into a butterfly... tear, distress, texture, collage, surround with mementos, add embellishments and ephemera, enclose in a frame or shadowbox and voilà… ALTERED!

It is no longer a simple canvas or the same photo. The artist’s inspiration and creativity brings life, and the piece becomes not only something changed but something more meaningful. This is part of an artists’ gift to us and we thank them profusely, for without thinking beyond what is initially seen, there would be no altered art form.
